The hillbilly hula gal

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Gail Lloyd is the driving force behind Wild Oats Records’
Gail & The Tricksters, a Nashville-based band, who play swingin’, rockin’ roots music
that blends the best of rockabilly, jump blues and rock’n’roll.

Gail & the Tricksters are dynamic live performers who really know how to get the
audience on their feet and dancing.  Gail, who is originally from Hawaii, is a versatile singer with great stage presence, and is backed by a stellar line-up of musicians with their own long lists of performing/recording credits.  Music journalist Vince Mont- gomery describes Gail & The Tricksters  as “The most enjoyable new local act I've seen recently... Gail has a very good voice,  and is a high-energy stageperformer”.

Gail grew up on the islands of Oahu and Maui, learning – among other things --
to hula, surf, and play native instruments like the ukulele and uli uli, and listening to local deejays like the legendary Aku Head Pupule. (His name means “crazy fish head” in Hawaiian !)  Gail’s feel for the beat brought her to Nashville in the early ‘90s, and
has also taken her around the world.  She’s performed in Germany, Austria, Switzer- land, Sweden, England, Scotland, France, the Czech Republic, and even by the Sea of  Galilee in Israel.

The band's  original sound has won the admiration of  Wanda Jackson, who Gail
and the band have backed and opened for at several Tennessee musical events;
and rockabilly legend Frank “Andy” Starr, with whom Gail dueted with on some
of his final recordings. Wanda Jackson, in the Nashville Rage of April 3rd,  2004,
said of Gail & The Tricksters: "I  worked with them last year at the Americana festival," Jackson says. "We previewed my new album together.  They are an excellent band, and I'm really grateful to have them."  Gail recently (Summer 2004) shared the stage with Rosie  Flores and Linda Gail Lewis at a festival in Sweden.

The debut EP by Gail & The TrickstersAll Tricked Out,  a six song raver, has earned
favorable reviews and radio airplay both in the U.S. and overseas.  The band was also featured on Wild oats Record's three-artist album,   Starr Struck  (2003) along with  Rockabilly Hall-Of-Famer  Frank "Andy" Starr, & The Haywoods.  Gail is back in the studio in Nashville, putting finishing touches on the brand-new  Gail & The Tricksters CD, Dare To Be Different, Says Gail: “I enjoy taking elements of blues, rockabilly … surf, a touch of surf, and a little  swing … And well, I think I’m a pretty intense live performer, I  just fuse it all together and hope it catches fire !”
